The Chicago Bears drafted Mike Ditka, a tight end, fifth overall in the 1961 NFL Draft, and after signing with Chicago, his presence was immediately felt with 58 receptions his rookie season. Ditka's success earned him Rookie of the Year honors. He played for the Bears for six years, earning five Pro Bowl trips during his playing career. Ditka played on the Bears' 1963 NFL championship team. Following his playing career, Ditka became a successful NFL coach. As the head coach of the Bears from 1982-1992, Ditka led the Bears to six NFC Central titles and three trips to the NFC Championship Game. The pinnacle of Ditka's coaching career was on January 26, 1986, with a 46–10 trouncing of the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XX.
